Community Conversations on Racial Equity in SFUSD

Report of Findings and Recommendations on Racial Equity in SFUSD

From February 20th through April 25, 2014, the PAC reached out to hear from SFUSD families about their experiences with racial equity to learn what is working, name the challenges school communities face and identify solutions to improve outcomes in this regard.

We held 11 community conversations at schools sites and with community groups. The majority of participants were parents and in smaller numbers, we heard from community members, educators and students.

Based on what we learned from these community conversations, we presented our Report of Findings and Recommendations on Racial Equity in SFUSD to the S.F. Board of Education on June 10, 2014. Please find the report here:

Local Control and Accountability Plan 2013-2014

Report of Findings and Recommendations for SFUSD’s LCAP

The PAC collaborated with our community and district partners* to gather input from families across the district on the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), a requirement under California’s new funding model the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Together we reached a broad spectrum of parents, in particular families of English Language Learners, low-income students,  youth in foster care and students with special needs.  We heard from over 400 participants as result of our collective outreach efforts about what  families think is important and needed to support student success. Read our findings, recommendations and report that were presented to the S.F. Board of Education.

PAC Family Night

The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) held its First Annual Family Night at the Mission Science Workshop. It was an opportunity for PAC members and their families to come together for an evening of hands-on science and community building activities before embarking on our work together for the year.
