Parents as Partners Keynote Speaker Carla Bryant speaking on Saturday, September 28 2013
The PAC was part of the team of community partners that worked with the SFUSF Office of Family and Community Engagement on the planning of First Annual SFUSD Family Engagement Institute (FEI), which was held on Saturday, September 28th at Martin Luther King Middle School. Several PAC members attended the event as participants and presenters, and supported parent outreach by staffing a PAC resource table.
One of the main objectives of the Institute was to build capacity among parents, district staff, and community partners for engaging families across the district sites. To this end, PAC members co-facilitated four workshops on topics, which included: Engaging Families to Understand and Support Restorative Practices; Interrupting the Negative Impacts for African American Students; Valuing Diversity and Creating CommUNITY at School Sites and; Measuring What Works: Tools to Evaluate Family Engagement Strategies.
The FEI was an opportunity to bring greater awareness about the SFUSD Family Engagement Standards, which are one of the district’s six strategies for student success, and begin the dialogue among stakeholders about what is relevant, meaningful and engaging for families across the district.
